Seadwellers and Tyrians

Violetbloods

Violet trolls are the second highest caste in the system. They have the second longest life spans of any troll and have everything that is required to survive below and above water. They are the least populated caste, they are less than 1% of the population. This tends to lead to an abundance of narcissistic tendencies and superiority complexes. Violets like tyrian trolls have very durable and incredibly strong, even those with smaller more petite structures. Like all seadwelling trolls they have gills, usually on the side of their throats to keep any water away from the lungs. They have a few extra organs then land dwellers one of which closes off the trachea right below the gills so water can not pass into their lungs underwater. Above water gills close up to protective slits to keep from drying out. Most if not all seadwellers have a second film over their eyes specifically made to see underwater which tends to lead to eyesight problems out of the water without the uses of glasses/contacts or cybernetics. Most seadwellers tend to wear glasses to compensate above the water though cybernetics are easy to come by and most seadwellers can afford it. Other than that they tend to have a bit longer webbing between their digits. Some tend to also have webbing along their spines the side of their legs or forearms, all seadwellers have finned ears. Their teeth also tend to be shaped differently having a more shark like appearance, sometimes with multiple rows.

Seadwellers are also known to have a second language that consists of multiple clicks, high pitched whistles, longer vowels and longer phonims. It is very melodic and tends to have a rhythm that mimics the flow of tides.  This language is known as high alternian. Seadwellers are the only trolls known to be able to form the sounds underwater due to a secondary voice box and thus greater vocal range. This is also helped by their finned ears which are designed to easily pick up those sounds unlike normal trolls.

Most clothes designed for seadwellers are also covered in

waterproof material and water repellents like DWR. This is for an ease of movement in and out of the water; it also doesn't allow fabrics to be weighed down when swimming.

As kids violets generally mingle with others in society but they can choose to have private tutors if they so please. Usually growing up with everything provided for them even going into adulthood. They hold a lot of media presence as high ranking official, spokespeople for tyrians, celebrities and so on. They tend to inherit a great deal of wealth from ancestral bloodlines, as well as positions in the empires machine (if they do choose to follow in their ancestors footsteps). They are the only cast that has the ability to interact with the ruling caste one on one without being a servant or someone who works for the tyrians.

Hives and Living Situations

Violets are at the peek of technology. Most of their hives are decked out with the newest tech from around the empire, spacy and modern. Most violets also have their own servants and staff under them that live in their hives. They are not given drones like tyrians but they can have their own bodyguards and security on top of their own tech. Violets are also known to have multiple hives or residences. Like the highbloods they can also have personal hive A.I.’s not unlike cookies from the Black Mirror episode White Christmas. These hives also tend to be along the shoreline or on their own islands and most are half in and half out of the water.

Types of jobs and opportunities

Violetbloods have the freedom to choose where they want to go and what they want to do as adults. They usually have high positions in government and industry. Most of the highest ranking trolls in society are violet bloods that act as counsel for the tyrian that owns the colony they live in. 90% of a tyrian’s court and close circle are likely to be violet bloods. These violets hold the equivalent of Dukes and Duchesses, and oversee large areas of planets, usually with purple bloods right under them. If they don’t choose to serve their tyrian personally they can choose whatever other paths they want without judgement. Nevertheless they are always upheld in a position of power in whatever industry they choose to be part of.

Tyrian Trolls

Tyrian trolls also known as royal violets are some of the rarest alternians in existence. They are on the level of living gods in Aleph Null. Only 17 are known to exist at this time 1 for every 25 billion. The youngest of the tyrian trolls being 8 sweeps old while the oldest is over 800 sweeps. They have all the same traits of seadwelling trolls though they are known to live longer, and are  known to heal faster. Tyrians are also naturally taller than other trolls. They are known to to have fins that curl on the ends unlike the violets which may be due to their genetics. With their extreme rarity and recessive genes, they are supposed to be protected and provided for at all times, they are the empire's highest priority.

When a tyrian troll hatches they are immediately separated from the other trolls. They are to be taken care of and doted on by jades and nanny drones. Within the first few nights of hatching they will be taken away from their hatchmates and checked for any health issues. The jades and nanny drones have a duty to watch

these newly hatched trolls day and night making sure they will be healthy enough to be transferred out to the capital of the empire. Once they are certain the grub is healthy enough to be moved they will be taken to the imperial palace. From that moment on they will be given their own imperial drones that will be attached to them for life, and their own set of nanny drones that have been programmed to take care of them for as long as they are needed. They take the place of a lusus. Usually the elder tyrian trolls will also be around to welcome the newly hatched heir into the royal circle, of course there is an incredible amount of publicity.

When young they will be raised in the imperial palace and Luminary herself takes them under her wing, she sets an example for them and makes a bond with them. This goes for the other tyrian trolls who are always welcomed into the imperial palace. From a young age they are taught how to present themselves to other adult trolls and they learn that they can tell others what to do, they learn to be leaders. Along with this they are personally tutored by other seadwelling trolls and highbloods in the empire who are skilled in their fields. They learn everything from alternia’s ancient history to the modern day, the art of war and alternia’s military, the visual arts, literature, mathematics and the sciences. They are also taught how to hold themselves in public situations, how to speak to other trolls and the media, and lastly how to make difficult decisions. Anything that requires leadership and ruling they are taught how to handle it. During their time as an heir they will also shadow the other tyrian trolls by visiting their colonies as well as visiting the military and gaining a deeper understanding of how it works and what is at their disposal.

A young tyrian will continue training until they turn 50 sweeps old when they will either challenge the reigning Empress/Emperor or become an Emissary.

Duties of tyrians

The Empress is of course the face of the Empire. She is the head while the others tyrian trolls are known as Emissaries. The Empress herself has the duty to host meetings of the high council that consists of all the tyrians. She is also the only one able to gift colonies to any other tyrian. She is the final say in any and all appointed laws though she can not execute her own laws without the approval of the others. Instead she must hold it to a vote. Any new law will go into effect if there is a 70% agreement from the other tyrians. Legislative power is exercised by the Empress and with the advice and consent of her counsel. There is at least one meeting per season with the royal council. If a tyrian is unable to attend in person they can either choose a trusted high ranking violet stand in or can use their own hologram tech though cyberspace to attend.

The Emissaries are required to know everything that goes on in their colonies. They must be able to take care of any problems that arise, or at least tell their violets and purples to take care of it for them. They are also supposed to bring up issues that may have significance to the Empress during the seasonal meetings.

Each of the tyrian colonies are named by the tyrian in charge, usually colonies are named after their tyrian followed by a number and colony (example: Harlan’s third colony). The number of colonies one has usually depends on their age (they usually receive their first colony planet at the age of 50 sweeps) and loyalty to the

Empress. An Emissary is able to decide what they want their planets to be or how they want them to function, what industries to promote from agriculture to housing. If they come up with the idea to build or take down anything they have the final say. They can change, displace or rearrange anything they want on the planets, unless it is a huge problem for the economy.  However they need to deal with the consequences if anything goes wrong, usually their violets and purple ambassadors are the ones to fix their mistakes.

They can also choose to command their planets however they want to as long as it doesn’t endanger the state of the empire or the Empress herself. They could choose to have all of their violets and purples oversee their colonies and not even leave their palaces, just send them paperwork. They can choose to go on tours of their colonies in person or travel wherever they want, but when they do go out in public they usually have imperial drones, other bodyguards and require a great deal of organization. They can go to other colonies at any time they want, they aren’t confined to just being on their own planets.

Other than that an Emissary is required to be the hosts of celebrations and parties in the name of the empire and keep up appearances. They are generally supposed to inspire the citizens of alternia and hold it all together. The media is also required to only show them in the best of lights, publicly speaking maliciously about a tyrian could get you killed. There are exceptions for a tyrian’s close circle as well as for parody or for comedic intent in the right settings, criticism is allowed but only by certain media.

Appointing an Emissary

When tyrian heir reaches 50 sweeps they will be given a choice to be come an Emissary or to challenge the ruling power in lawful combat to the death to gain the crown. This event lasts 3 nights. Each night represents the 3 prongs of the trident:

  • The Empress/Emperor

  • The Empire

  • The Emissary.

On these nights it’s an empire wide holiday with the tyrian receiving their first colony at the center of the celebration.

The first night represents the Empress/Emperor where they will address the empire as a whole announcing the colony coronation of the newly recognized tyrian heir. They will present planet will be gifted to them. On this night the tyrian who is getting ready to be appointed will stay with the Empress/Emperor asking any final questions and being reminded on how the celebration will be held, a sort of pep talk almost. This would also be the day where a tyrian would choose to challenge the standing Empress/Emperor for the crown. If they do choose to challenge the rule there will be a different turn of events.

The main colony coronation is held on the second night, the night for the empire. On that night the tyrian will need to go through a sort of ritual that metaphorically ties them to the empire. This is held in the capital imperial palace. What happens is as follows. All of the Emissaries, younger tyrians and the Empress/Emperor will all be in one place gathered in the throne room along with all of the seadwellers and highbloods who are in the imperial court. The Empress/Emperor stands in front of the throne with three objects. A golden rope, a celebratory dagger and the celebratory trident that is used only for this occasion. The tyrian who is being given the colony will walk down the middle isle by themselves up to the Empress/Emperor before facing them in front of the throne. The whole process requires the reciting of vows before loosely tying the younger tyrians wrists in an infinity knot with the golden rope. This represents the tie to the empire for as long as time flows. More vows are recited, promising to uphold the bond. The Empress/Emperor will then cut the palm of the tyrian’s dominant hand with the dagger. This is to show you will spill your blood for the empire. The last part of the ceremony is when you are given the trident. The trident represents the empire and holding it is you holding the empire in your own hands. The Empress/Emperor will step back and you are to repeat the last vow. “I bind, I sacrifice, I serve.” From that moment you are officially an Emissary.

The third night is the night of the Emissary that was just appointed. It's a full blown celebration of the newly recognized Emissary everything is about them. There is a banquet and an address by the new Emissary. Gifts are given, there’s media photo shoots all the good stuff as well as a banquet. It’s all sort of like you are welcomed into the family officially and your now a true adult. That night is their night. It is also the night that will be celebrated every sweep on the colony they are given as the night it was founded.

How the crown is passed down

The crown of alternia is passed down through defeating the reigning Empress or Emperor in lawful combat. The Empress/Emperors rule can be challenged by any other tyrians on the Night of the Empress. If you are already an Emissary you can not legally challenge the crown, you already chose your path. The fight however is traditionally set up like a gladiator fight with no rules other than you are only allowed to use a trident as your weapon. It is and always has been a battle to the death. This battle happens on the second night after the choice is made.

The catch in this AU is that there is not a single tyrian who has been given formal combat training after the rise of Her Unassailable Luminary.

Tyrian treason and deaths

tyrians usually have a lot of leeway when it comes to obeying alternian laws by what is known as “The Right of Rule'' but there is one law that not even they can get away with. No one, not even a tyrian can get away with plotting treason. However when someone is of such a high rank it is taken care of very quietly and precisely. It does not go public and the blame when a tyrian is found dead or missing is chalked up to terrorism or marked on known rebel lowbloods. The media also comes up with an excuse for possible scapegoats. When a tyrian dies the colonies are taken under the wing of the reigning Emperor or Empress at the time until they are able to be split up the colonies between the other emissaries. During these turbulent times prior owned colonies will go through a lock down faze and are even more highly monitored then normal, military intervention is normal until things fall back into place.

When the current Emissary Warlord dies his place will be taken by the next tyrian he chooses to will the responsibility to, this is a decision made by him and the Empress.
