Welcome to Dystopia
The Alternian Empire in Aleph Null takes up around 20% of the entire galaxy. There is a different Empress then canon, though Her Imperious Condescension may have at one point existed in this universe's timeline. That is up to interpretation. Her Unassailable Luminary has taken center stage as the head of the empire at this time. The last ruler was defeated by her and she gained the crown. As of now Luminary has held the Alternian throne for around 600 sweeps or in human terms over a single millennium.
Since the prior rulers defeat galaxy conquest have scaled back, in turn the new Empress favors terraforming the planets that have been gained. Around 224 livable planets are under Alternian jurisdiction, though only around 86 are in use. The 86 planets are split up between the other 16 "tyrian" trolls known as Emissaries. Each of these colonized planets have a normal resting capacity of 4-6 billion trolls which tends to keep the balance quite well. This does not include the kid planets or the camp planets that limes mutants and rebels get sent to. Those planets are functional but are under empire jurisdiction and thus Luminary herself, not a single tyrian.
Alternia present day is set somewhere far in the future. Interstellar space travel with ease is possible and common. Cybernetic technology is very common, as well as highly advanced robotics and terraforming. Most sci-fi and cyberpunk concepts are known to exist in this universe, full immersion virtual reality, highly advanced A.I., star ships and warp gates all of it exists to some capacity. Alternia is a considerable force to be reckoned with. In simple terms they would be comparable to the North Korea of the galaxy but with an extremely advanced and concerning amount of military strength. The empire from the outside is locked behind an iron curtain, they do not associate with other intergalactic races. No outside races actually know what specifically goes on inside the Alternian Empire. The other intergalactic alien races that exist in this galaxy only know the Alternian Empire as an uncooperative, secretive war machine. They are a very old race and they do not play well with others.
Her Unassailable Luminary
Her Unassailable Luminary is the reigning empress in Aleph Null. She is a real powerhouse when it comes to leadership and rule.She is the catalyst to most things different in this AU. Some of the things she has changed are the following:
Taking newly hatched tyrian trolls under her wing and housing them in the imperial palace.
Setting up a new schooling system for young trolls so they learn how to be useful in their adult lives based on blood.
The research of cybernetics and highly advanced A.I. technology.

Terraforming conquered planets rather than conquering more space.
Giving planets to Emissaries to rule over in her stead since she can not control them all at once.
Sending limes and mutants to camp planets instead of killing them outright.
Funding new drone technology and giving the choice for jades to stay in the brooding caverns or leave to join the other adults.

She is a very intimidating figure, comfortable with silence though she is not light spoken. Most of her body including her eyes, claws and limbs are enhanced with cybernetics. Her crown also has psionic technology giving her access to use a version of psionic energy. Her title comes from her inability to be defeated by any heirs in 600 sweeps and holding a very strong grasp on the crown and her inspiring presence and influences over others. Her being Unassailable is because of two reasons: her prowess in lawful combat making her a dangerous adversary and the fact that no heir after her has ever been taught how to fight. You would think this would be illegal but there is no law saying you CAN'T teach your heirs how to fight. So she doesn't, instead they are trained to become Emissaries and lead colonies instead of the Empire.
